In front of the Algerian press, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune insisted: to get out of the Malian crisis, we need elections, we must give the floor to the people.
Commonly referred to as the "Great Neighbor", Algeria shares 1400 km of border with Mali and it is in Algiers that the peace agreement between the Malian government and the ex-rebels was signed in 2015. In its exit, the Algerian president reconsiders this agreement: "
As long as the peace agreement will not be applied, the problems of Mali will persist
", he says.
Since its signing, the application of the peace agreement on the ground has been sluggish.
The ex-rebels recently officially deplored
the "abandonment of the agreement
" by the Malian transitional government, before expressing "
great concern
" at the deterioration of the country's security situation.
The ex-rebels of the Coordination of Movements of Azawad (CMA) still control the city of Kidal located in the northeast of Mali, in a border region with Algeria.
